About Heather
With the exception of five years in sunny Florida , I spent my childhood in
rural New England. Growing up there left me with a lasting love of the ocean,
the smell of salt marshes, old stone walls, horses, and covered bridges. I lived
in houses with historical names, Indian shutters, and secret crawl spaces, and
enjoyed frequent field trips to the Salem Witch Museum. I harbored the absolute
conviction that one of the houses we lived in was haunted (a belief reinforced
when my sister tossed a chestnut across the attic and maintained until adulthood
that it had been thrown by a ghost).
I currently live in Wisconsin with my husband, two daughters, and a miniature
poodle who likes to pretend he’s a wolf. Life in the Midwest has come with its
own stories—the tornado that took out most of the trees on our street, the law
degree I opted not to use, the eight years we spent remodeling our cute little
fixer upper, the humbling surprises of parenthood, and the series of jobs I held
until I found my way back to writing.
If I’m not at the computer working on a novel or a freelance article, I can
often be found curled up with a book and a cup of tea on winter evenings,
working in my perennial gardens in the spring, or listening to my girls play
violin and cello outdoors under the full moon on summer nights.
