Since March, I've had a novel, a novella, and two short stories released
under my pen name, and I have a sequel to my first novel coming out in
August. My big decision now is what to write next--either the third in a
series under my pen name, or Riding the Night Wind, my urban fantasy
that I have all mapped out. Decisions, decisions...

Wow, spring in Wisconsin is amazing this year! After over 100 inches of
snow this winter, it's so wonderful to have lilacs blooming all over the
place, as well as a multitude of flowering crabs. One thing I've
discovered this year is that having two identities as an author is very
time consuming. My alter ego just finished a sequel to the book that's
out now, and my current release is selling great. What's really exciting
is that for my next project, I'm finally going to write the urban
fantasy I've had plotted out for over a year, working title, Riding the
Night Wind. That one will go under my own name. In the mean time, I'm
busy promoting a novella under my other identity, which is due out May
27.

This week, I signed a contract for a book that will come out under
my pen name in April. I'm very excited, not to mention busy.
I'm working on a sequel to that book, as well as on an urban fantasy
(working title, Riding the Night Wind). I've got to say, the book
contract is just about my best Solstice gift ever!

As usual, I'm not sure where the summer went. I finished my third
manuscript this summer (a 90,000 word paranormal which will go under my
pen name), polished it, and sent it off. Besides the usual trips
to the pool, special events, and family visits, this was the summer of
repair people. We called in an electrician, a dishwasher repair
person, a plumber, and a bee control expert to deal with wasps in our
shed, all within a few weeks. If I could choose "most memorable
moments" for the summer, I'd pick the two outdoor concerts when my
sister was in town, and watching the Perseid meteor shower with my
husband and daughters. But in all honesty, what I'll probably
remember best when I think of summer '07 is our miniature poodle
catching a full-grown rabbit and devouring its head on the patio while
my in-laws were here. Now that was a memorable experience.

Just got a call that Dark Solstice won the Between the Sheets
Contest. The final round was judged by two editors and an agent,
and the contest has a cash prize, so it's a nice one to win (big, happy
grin). Otherwise, I'm 57,000 words into my work-in-progress (a
finalist in another contest), and am determined to have a draft
completed by June (end goal, 90,000-100,000 word manuscript).
Okay, back to writing...
April 13, 2007
Yesterday, I found out two of my manuscripts (both written by my evil
twin) are finalists in the Fab 5 Contest. Which is great news, but
at the moment, I'm even more excited that the seven inches of snow we
got a couple days ago is melting. Snow in April is a very dirty
trick, especially since we had a couple days in the high seventies last
month. But judging by the sun streaming through the sliding glass
doors next to my desk, we'll be back to green grass and spring gardens
in no time.

I just found out Dark Solstice is a finalist in the Greater Detroit RWA
Between the Sheets contest. Between that and the unseasonably warm
Wisconsin weather after a long, cold winter, I'm in a great mood.
The daffodils are coming up, the crocus are blooming, the forsythia buds
are out, and our pussy willow is covered in downy little blossoms.
Yep, spring's here, and life is good!

A belated happy New Year to everyone! 2007 is off to a good start
for me, writing wise. I received a contract for two short stories
(which will be published under my pen name, a closely held secret).
I've been working on my agent search for Dark Solstice, and wrapping up
the editing stage for another short story, as well as moving along on my
work in progress.
It's been so cold here this week, it's hard to sit still at the computer
and write. I generally love having sliding glass doors, lots of
windows, and two skylights in the room where I write, but when the
temperature drops below zero, it's hard to keep the room, or the writer,
warm. I'm thinking very enthusiastically about spring!
Poodle attacks shrubbery.

Okay, I've got a strange dog. My miniature poodle,
loves to savage low growing shrubs. He'll pounce and tear at a
bush for up to 20 minutes, scattering leaves in all directions. |
